Master of Alchemy This is perhaps Amalie Bruun's most honest expression of her native folk music, being a live recording and featuring the nyckelharpa (an ancient Swedish key harp). It has an authenticity unmatched by any of her other similar releases. Few folk artists compare in talent or quality. I do hope that Amalie releases more folk music like this, recorded in a way which captures the earthiness and intimacy that such music benefits from - I am dying to hear more!

Amber Dean Scandinavian folk music touches a part of my soul that I simply can't articulate... and Myrkur's renditions are beyond spectacular.

Eric Myrkur's folk performances are where she is at her strongest. Truly moving and impressive.

Jack Kadien This is an incredible recording. The nyckelharpa (an instrument I really want to hear more of) and her angelic voice make this cover of a traditional Scandinavian folk song one of the most haunting and beautiful songs I've heard in quite some time. When I hear this music I envision this as a song I would listen to before going into battle.

Anders M. Nordli It was kinda unexpected to see this appear as a single here on bandcamp, since I saw an excerpt on social media not long ago. It's so awesome that it ended up as a recording! :D

The key harp is a weird looking instrument with a pretty cool violin-ish sound, so it's fun to see Myrkur just go for it like this. This is a nice traditional folk song with Swedish lyrics.

about

Myrkur Denmark

Though the word "myrkur" means "darkness" in Icelandic, MYRKUR (aka Amalie Bruun)'s music is far from monochromatic. With its distinct sense of Nordic isolation, MYRKUR's compositions are at once savage and delicate. Choral and folk elements abound, lending the music a mystical, legendary quality and an untouchable equilibrium between dark and light. ... more
