Dronning Ellisiv

Master of Alchemy I purchased this single as it is part of Myrkur's folk orientated body of work which I hugely enjoy. Having a pristine sheen to it, this song is edging more in the direction of commercial folk, in the vein of Clannad or Enya... I can even imagine it within the score of a big budget fantasy blockbuster film - it is teetering on the brink of being not for me. The song is good, though, Amalie has a spellbinding voice which I never tire of, and I appreciate the narrative folk lyrics.

Gravel92 I love Dronning Ellisiv! Myrkur and Vermilia are the best female artists in metal at the moment! \m/

Anders M. Nordli This is another folk song by Myrkur.

It's without a doubt a nice and beautiful song about Queen Ellisiv, the wife of Harald Hardråde - king of Norway.

about

MYRKUR returns with the new single, Dronning Ellisiv. Recorded during the Folkesange album sessions, Dronning Ellisiv sees Amalie Bruun harnessing the very magic that has made her new album so special - from soaring atmospheres to lush instrumentations accompanying Bruun's bold, immense voice, Dronning Ellisiv is cinematic in every way.

The single, a reimagining of a song by the great Harald Foss, tells the tale of the Grand Prince Yaroslav of Novgorod and his daughter Elisiv of Kiev. Elisiv would later marry King Harald of Norway and become Queen Consort of Norway in the 1040's. Immersive and ethereal, the mood of Dronning Ellisiv dives into the source material and continues to evoke the sounds of expansive folk music, breathing new life into an old Nordic tale. Nostalgic and timeless, Dronning Ellisiv continues to usher in a new era for Bruun and MYRKUR.

about

Myrkur Denmark

Though the word "myrkur" means "darkness" in Icelandic, MYRKUR (aka Amalie Bruun)'s music is far from monochromatic. With its distinct sense of Nordic isolation, MYRKUR's compositions are at once savage and delicate. Choral and folk elements abound, lending the music a mystical, legendary quality and an untouchable equilibrium between dark and light. ... more
